THUNDER TORQUE INSERTS

What Size For My Pipes?

Size Key:

W118 = 1 1/8" in Diameter

W158 = 1 5/8" in Diameter

W258 = 2 5/8" in Diameter

The First Step is to determine which type of Slip-on (mufflers) you have

There are two main configurations of Slip-ons (this also applies to straight pipes)

  1. One that is open/hollow on the inside
  2. One that has a smaller hole on the inside.

Example pics-

Open- A hollow shell

Smaller hole on the inside

Smaller Hole on the Inside

If you have a smaller hole, you want a TTI that is the same diameter (or larger) of the smaller hole, but still leaves ¼” or more of space between the outside edge of the TTI and the outer shell of the Slip-on.

Smaller Hole Example #1:  1” smaller hole in a Slip-on shell that is 2.25” in diameter

This could use a W118 TTI or a W158 TTI

Both of these are larger than the smaller hole, and both leave more than ¼” space between the outside edge of the TTI and the outer shell of the Slip-on

The W158 will be a bit deeper sound and a couple of decibels quieter than the W118

Smaller Hole Example #2: 1.5” smaller hole in slip-on shell that is 3” in diameter

This would use a W158, because it is larger than the smaller hole, but leaves more than ¼” space between the outside edge of the TTI and the outer shell of the Slip-on

Open/Hollow Shell

If your slip-on is open, basically a hollow shell, then you want a TTI that covers almost the entire end of the exhaust leaving 1/8” to 5/8” between the outer edge of the TTI and the inside of the pipe.

Open/Hollow Shell Example #1:  Short Shots for a Sporty with no baffle have a 2” hole.

The best size TTI is a W158.  This will leave a 3/16” space between the outside of the TTI and the slip-on shell.

Open/Hollow Shell Example #2:  3.5" Rush slip-ons with the baffles removed.

The best size TTI is a W258.  This will leave a 7/16” space between the outside of the TTI and the slip-on shell.

"Just wanted to give you a heads up. I received my Thunder Torque inserts (W118)a couple of days ago, put them in and finally was able to ride today. Great product.

It toned down the idle and low rpms on my Vance and Hines Shortshots. The increase in the mid range is awesome. I was expecting to buy new pipes, but not now. The Shortshots have become a performance pipe with great sound." -John

"I do not usually thank people, but I just got the W118 installed...so much better pulling out...Big Improvement...Anyway thanks, another satisfied customer.  Bike is a 2012 FLHTK with Stage IV Harley kit, dresser duals and street cannons.

It did change the exhaust note as well, a bit crisper is the only way I can explain, that's also a win in my book! -Eric
